Everything You Need to Know About Protein Shakes

 

Protein Shakes: the redheaded stepchild of the working out, losing weight movement. Every commercial, every headline, every “gym expert” will tell you – “WORK OUT! EAT RIGHT! And the weight will fall right off you!” Well, yeah… But there is SO much more that goes into those statements. There are a number of best practices, or things that you can be doing to aid your progress and potentially speed it up. Protein Shakes are one of those best practices. This article will answer your biggest question… “What are protein shakes?”

“What are protein shakes?” and “Why are they so important?” you might ask. I’ll tell you the “who, what, where, when, and why” of using protein shakes.

 

Who Drinks Protein Shakes?

You! The one who is working on your wellness and fitness goals. The one who is becoming their healthiest self ever.

What Are Protein Shakes?

Protein! When I say protein, I’m specifically referring to protein shakes. I don’t know about you… but when I’ve just finished a workout, I do NOT want to sit down for a heavy helping of protein. My stomach can’t handle it at that time! I need to wait before I eat a meal.

I need something light and easily digestible: Protein shakes. Typically, protein shakes are made from protein powder and water. However, other ingredients can be added as well! You can get really creative with your protein shakes! There are different kinds of protein powder, too. So you can pick the kind that best suits your body and your needs! Where Can I Buy Protein Shakes?

You can buy protein at a variety of stores. The grocery store, your local health/vitamin shop, online, etc.! It is readily available for you when you need it. Many use a blender bottle to mix up their protein shake on the go.

When Should I Drink Protein Shakes?

Digesting protein within 30 minutes of finishing your workout will help you build the lean muscle you want (no, ladies, not the bulky muscle we can all picture in our heads!) and recover more quickly post-workout!

Why Should I Use Protein Shakes?

Protein is essential. Especially for weight loss. I could talk for hours on the benefits of protein shakes. In fact, I might just dedicate an entire post to the ‘why’ of protein shakes. But for now, here’s my summary.

 


 

The Benefits of Drinking Protein Shakes

1. Protein Shakes help you lose weight and aid in fat loss (I’m lookin’ at you stubborn tummy fat!).

2. It boosts your metabolism.

3. It suppresses your hunger much better than carbohydrates do.

4. Protein Shakes can also prevent regaining weight after your weight loss.

 

 

Now, before you jump out of your chair and purchase protein powder, I must tell you: NOT ALL PROTEIN POWDERS ARE CREATED EQUAL.
